Common QR Scanning Problems

Diagnose lighting, size, damage, density and design issues.

6 minute read · Troubleshooting

Start with the scanning context

A reliable difficult QR code begins with where it will be seen. Printed size, viewing distance, lighting, surface finish and the scanner’s network connection matter as much as visual styling.

Design for recognition and contrast

Use a quiet margin, a calm background and strong contrast across the entire pattern. Rounded modules, brand colors and a modest logo can work well, but every finished asset should be tested on more than one phone.

Export and test the final artwork

PNG is practical for screens and everyday documents. SVG remains crisp for signs, packaging and professional print. Test the actual exported file at its final physical size before committing to a large run.
